Community Health slashed in Labor’s Budget

Tuesday 28 May 2019

Daniel Andrews again talks up the state of health but it’s clear he’s favoured his mates over the Victorian public and broken a raft of promises.
Community Health is the big loser in this budget. The very area which supports some of the state’s most vulnerable.

Labor’s $675 million election promise to build new community hospitals in Whittlesea, Eltham, Point Cook, Fishermans Bend, Craigieburn, Cranbourne, Pakenham, Philip Island, Sunbury and Torquay has received a total of just $2 million.
Hollow words when it comes to delivering to local communities.

Frankston Hospital receives just $6 million in planning of the $562 million promised at the election.
The new dental vans were supposed to bring down the waiting times for general dental care but the state’s performance target remains unchanged.

In fact, waiting times for 2018-19 have worsened compared to last year.
There’s very little in preventative care and tackling chronic disease, which is placing an ever increasing burden on our health system as the population grows and ages.

Rural and regional Victorians have not seen enough from Daniel Andrews and Labor with desperate upgrades required at Warrnambool Hospital having received zero dollars, whilst Wangarratta received just $2.4m of the $10 million promised at the election.
Meanwhile uncertainty remains about the delivery of the “world-class” hospital in Maryborough and a Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Geelong that Labor promised before the election.

Small rural services which provide vital and necessary services to hundreds of thousands of Victorians still remain concerned that ongoing funding and their viability will not be recognised by such a city-centric orientated State Government.
