Official data from the Department of Health shows those lists are set to get longer.

The Victorian Health Minister has blamed the flu season and Federal funding cuts.

Projections from the Department of Health show the wait list at Northern Health is set to double next year, while at St Vincent’s Hospital it would be at 79 per cent and 33 per cent at Royal Children’s Hospital.

Health economists say part of the problem is people leaving the private health system and joining the public queue.

Jenny Mikakos, Health Minister says they have fronted flu season and Federal cuts but despite these, the people are still getting their elective surgery faster than before.

Georgie Crozier, Opposition Health Spokeswoman, says they cannot blame the flu for the mismanagement of the funds.
