An extraordinary story from Brigitte Gabriel
Written on the 4 March 2015
I was privileged to meet Brigitte Gabriel and hear her extraordinary story at the recent Victorian Women's Division of the United Isreal Appeal event in Brighton.
At least 500 women from the Jewish community attend this annual celebration and were joined by Opposition Leader, Matthew Guy and Member for Caulfield, David Southwick.
It was an inspiring morning and a powerful speech.
Ms Gabriel is a Christian woman who grew up in Lebanon during the civil war. She is now international speaker on the issues of women, religion and power in the Middle East.
The civil war in Lebanon - lasting from 1975 to 1990 - resulted in an estimated 120,000 fatalities.
Approximately 76,000 people remain displaced within Lebanon. There was also a mass exodus of almost one million people from Lebanon as a result.
