Are you the designer of Youth Central Nnect logo? (24.07.2012)

Written on the 24 July 2012

Local MP and Member for Southern Metropolitan Region Georgie Crozier is calling on young people aged 16 to 25 to submit their designs for a new logo for the popular Youth Central website.

Youth Central is the Victorian Government's website for young people, by young people. The site receives more than 100,000 unique visitors per month and is among the most popular youth government websites in Australia.

Young people can win up to $2,000 in prizes and the winning designer will be offered a unique opportunity to gain practical work experience with a leading Melbourne design agency.

“I encourage all those aged 16 to 25 to get creative and submit an entry to this competition. It is a fantastic opportunity for any young budding artist to get into the graphic design field”, Ms Crozier said.

Minister for Youth Affairs Ryan Smith said that for the first time since its creation in 2004, the Youth Central brand is being revamped to ensure the site remains relevant and engaging for young Victorians.

“Youth Central offers a range of information and advice on issues affecting young people such as jobs and careers, study and training, money, travel, housing, health and wellbeing, while also offering opportunities for them to contribute to the site.

“Most of the content on Youth Central is created by young people for young people, so having a young Victorian design the new logo is a natural extension of that,” Mr Smith said.

The Youth Central local competition delivers on the Victorian Coalition Government's vision for young people outlined in the recent youth statement 'Engage, Involve, Create.'

"We want to see more young people involved in their communities and decision-making, engaged in education, training and employment, and creating culture, communities and enterprise.

“I’m excited to see how young people participating in this competition creatively capture the meaning and feel of Youth Central and what it means to be a young Victorian. We are looking for a fresh and engaging logo that will form the concept for the new Youth Central brand,” Mr Smith said.

Young people are invited to submit up to three original logo designs.  All entries will be considered by a panel of young people and the Youth Central team who will then provide a shortlist of designs.  The shortlisted logos will be placed on Youth Central and young people will be invited to vote for their favourite design online. The logo with the most votes will be declared the winner.

Entries to the competition close 10am Friday 7 September 2012. For more information and for terms and conditions, visit www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au/logo.
