In Question Time in Parliament today Labor Health Minister, Jenny Mikakos was asked why Labor is refusing to fund Bush Nursing Centres and would not rule out their closures.
Bush Nursing Centres provide invaluable support to communities, ensuring that people have access to much needed health services across Victoria.Last year Bush Nursing Centres had 70,000 patient contacts, providing primary care for people who have suffered head injuries, significant burns and other serious injuries saving lives.
Without Bush Nursing Centres, people across regional and rural Victoria, who already have worse health outcomes, would not have access to these vital services in their own communities.Despite over 2 years of advocacy from Leading Age Services Victoria, Daniel Andrews and his Melbourne-centric government have refused repeated request for urgently needed support.
The services that the 15 Bush Nursing Centres across Victoria provide will be severely impacted if the government fails to deliver the funding required to support their continued operation."Bush Nursing Centres across Victoria are in urgent need of funding for support to ensure they can continue to provide the vital services to their communities" Ms Crozier said.
"If Daniel Andrews and Labor truly cared about health outcomes in regional and rural Victoria, they would immediately provide the Bush Nursing Centres across Victoria with the funding they urgently need."
