Written on the 8 August 2012
Local MP Georgie Crozier has announced that current providers and other interested organisations in the Southern Metropolitan Region can now apply for funding through the popular FReeZA program.
“FReeZA is great initiative providing affordable and accessible music and culture events across Victoria including within the Southern Metropolitan Region.” Ms Crozier said.
Mr Smith said FReeZA provides more than 130,000 young Victorians with the opportunity to participate in drug, alcohol and smoke-free events across Victoria.
“The Coalition Government is committed to supporting this long-standing and popular program that provides young people with the opportunity to get involved in their local community, engages them in training and enhances their skills, and allows them to be creative,” Mr Smith said.
“The additional funding, on top of our ongoing support for the popular FReeZA program, will help ensure that even more young people can continue to get involved in these events.”
In the 2012-13 Budget, the Victorian Coalition Government provided additional funding of $1.6 million over four years on top of the $2 million annual expenditure to the FReeZA program.
Mr Smith said the funding for FReeZA supports the Coalition Government’s vision for young people outlined in its youth statement Engage, Involve, Create.
“We want to see more young people involved in their communities and decision-making, engaged in education, training and employment, and creating culture, communities and change.
“Young people are the drivers of Victoria’s music scene, now and into the future. It is important through programs such as FReeZA, the Rock Eisteddfod Challenge, SYN and the Be Heard! community radio program, we support young people to develop their skills and self-confidence while showcasing their talents,” Mr Smith said.
Grant applications close on Friday 14 September 2012.
