Georgie Attends Annual BreastScreen Victoria Event At Parliament House

On 27 October Georgie attended BreastScreen Victoria’s annual Electorate Report Card event at Parliament House. The event was well attended by many MPs and aimed to highlight the importance of screening to prevent breast cancer.

The Electorate Report Card highlights the participation rates in each electorate. The state-wide participation rate is currently 53.8%. BreastScreen Victoria is aiming to reach 60 per cent by 2015.

Below is Southern Metropolitan Region’s statistics. We’re doing well, but have a little way to go to reach the 60 per cent target.

The biggest risk factor for breast cancer is being a woman over 50 years of age. This is the reason why BreastScreen Victoria invites women aged 50-69, who do not have breast symptoms or changes, to have a free screening mammogram every two years. Regular screening mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, before any symptoms are noticed, and when treatment is likely to be most successful.

No doctor’s referral is needed. To make an appointment contact 13 20 50.
