Georgie Attends The Official Opening Of The New Lamm Library

The Lamm Jewish Library of Australia, the largest of its type in the Sothern Hemisphere was officially opened by Premier Ted Baillieu.

Georgie Crozier MLC, Andrea Coote MLC and Bruce Atkinson MLC were also in attendance and congratulated Erwin Lamm, his family and the Jewish community for coming together to produce this magnificent community facility.

“It is great to be here to witness the opening of this incredible collection of material. I congratulate the Jewish community and in particular the Lamm family for their hard work in making this library possible.”   Ms Crozier said.

Congratulations were also received by Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott.

The $7 million facility will house over 75,000 volumes and will provide a valuable educational and scholarly resource to both the Jewish and wider community. The new facility includes the collections from the Makor, Kadimah, Jewish Holocaust Centre, Jewish Museum Libraries and the Jewish Historical and Genealogical Society.

The new library was made possible thanks to a $1 million grant from the state government and significant contributions from Mr Rafi Lamm, Mr Lamm’s grandson, foundations, and individuals from the Jewish and local communities.
