Living Victoria Fund grant to City of Monash for street tree watering trial

I joined the Minister for Water, Peter Walsh in Hughesdale where he announced a $307,000 grant from the Living Victoria Fund to the City of Monash for a street tree watering trial.
The trial will test the feasibility of using stormwater to irrigate trees in four typical residential neighbourhoods in the Monash Council area. During the drought, many of Melbourne’s street trees died or were permanently damaged due to a lack of water during water restrictions. Since then the Coalition Government has introduced Melbourne’s Water Future, a strategy on reusing stormwater and rainwater for non-drinking purposes, like watering trees. The research project is being conducted by the City of Monash in partnership with the University of Melbourne and Melbourne Water. The City of Monash alone is home to more than 100,000 street trees.
