Major funding boost for Oakleigh sport (10.11.2014)

Sporting enthusiasts have come out winners today, following an announcement that a re-elected Napthine Government will invest in a major upgrade of Scammell Reserve in South Oakleigh.
Liberal candidate for Oakleigh Theo Zographos, joined Minister for Sport and Receration, Damian Drum to make anannouncement that Scammell Reserve will receive $500,000 to upgrade facilities if the Napthine Government is re-elected.
“The Napthine Government understands the value of community sport and the important role sporting clubs play in communities such as Oakleigh," Mr Zographos said.
“As a local, I know the clubs that use Scammell Reserve have been fighting for funding for a long time, that’s why I’m so pleased to be able to deliver $500,000 for this much needed upgrade.“Scammell Reserve is the home to several sporting clubs, including the Oakleigh Amateurs Football Club, Oakleigh Dragons Junior Football Club and Oakleigh Cricket Club.
“As an avid sportsman myself, I know players from these clubs will be excited to hear that a re-elected Napthine Government will provide funding to upgrade their facilities.“This funding is about much more than simply upgrading sporting facilities. Local clubs play a central role in bringing out community together.
“Not only will this commitment enable vital upgrades to take place, but it will enable families in the Oakleigh electorate to come together in a healthy and active way.“A re-elected Napthine Government will continue to deliver better sporing facilities for the Oakleigh electorate."
