Making smoothies for Mental Health Week (8.10.13)

We know healthy living and exercise are key ingredients to improved mental health so this week I joined Out Doors Inc and blended my own free smoothie as part of Mental Health Week celebrations in Melbourne’s City Square.

Melbourne loved it. People got involved and joined in the fun to pedal-blend a smoothie in a range of flavours.

The Mental Health Week message this year is about getting outdoors and doing something fun that is good for everyone’s mental health and wellbeing.

I congratulate the Out Doors Inc team on their efforts this week and their focus to help raise awareness and challenge the stereotypes that still surround mental illness.

Out Doors Inc provides positive experiences and allows people to gain skills and confidence while also enjoying the beauty of Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Out Doors Inc started in 1987 and is a not-for-profit community managed mental health organisation that employes more than 30 permanent and sessional staff. It delivers a range of adventure and recreation activities and respite holiday programs to people who are living with a mental illness in Victoria.

The organisation promotes adventure in nature as a great approach to better health.

By taking part in the programs, participants find opportunities to get away from the ‘day-to-day’ and travel out into the bush with friendly groups.  A range of programs are offered from gentle introductory activities and recreational experiences to challenging adventures.
