More detail needed for domestic violence register

The Andrew's government push to establish a register of domestic violence offenders and create a separate offence for family violence needs more examination.

The proposal came in a submission to the Royal Commission on Family Violence, but there was little detail on how the offence and the register would work.

The Shadow Attorney General John Pesutto MP and I did a door step to highlight the lack of detail in the Government's family violence submission.

"If Daniel Andrew's has got any concerns about the safety of women and children in particular the government needs to act now and not wait for the findings and the recommendations of the Royal Commission."

Shadow Attorney General John Pesutto MP:
"If all that the government is proposing is that existing offences be given a new name, then that's not really going to address the challenge that domestic violence is posing."
