Murrumbeena Road level crossing removal project
Written on the 14 February 2014
I recently joined the Minister for Public Transport and Roads Terry Mulder when he announced that the Murrumbeena Road level crossing removal project is moving one step closer, with the awarding of a contractor to prepare designs and develop options.
This project is part of the Victorian Government’s $418 million Metro Level Crossing Blitz. Investment in roads by the Victorian Government so far totals $3.7 billion in almost three years.
At more than a billion a year, this is in stark contrast with Labor’s Transport Plan – a plan that would shrink spending to $125 million a year.
The Murrumbeena Road crossing is a significant local issue that has been raised with me by commuters and businesses.
These projects are large and complex but the community is understanding of the need to prepare for such large scale contracts and will be invited to discuss the project in the New Year with VicRoads and provide input into project options.
