National Volunteer Week 14 To 20 May 2012

Written on the 16 November 2012

Volunteers are the life blood of our community, without them many organisations that do great work would simply not be able to operate.

Volunteers contribute more than 700 million hours of community service to a wide range of community organisations. This month, between the 14th and 20th of May Australia will celebrate National Volunteer Week to pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of our nations volunteers.

The Victorian Government is committed to supporting and strengthening the work of our volunteers through:

Victoria’s Volunteering Portal www.volunteer.voc.gov.au – providing information and tools to better enable individual volunteers to connect with community organisations and resources to help organisations recruit, manage and retain their volunteers.

The Emergency Volunteer Register – a resource as part of the portal, for local councils to support the management and coordination of emergency of emergency volunteering in response to an emergency event and where community members who wish to help can register their details. This information is collated and distributed to councils on a  regular basis.
Events and activities to recognise and celebrate the efforts of Victoria’s volunteers and raise awareness and promote the benefits of volunteering and active participation.

In the spirit of National Volunteer Week you are encouraged to take part, get involved and help out your community. More information on how to get involved and the organisations and roles you may help out with is available at: portal www.volunteeringaustralia.org
