New Head Office for the Cancer Council Victoria

Cancer Council Victoria has opened a new Head Office at 615 St Kilda Road.

I joined colleagues, staff and volunteers at the new building which will allow the Cancer Council to more effectively harness ideas and innovation between research, prevention and support programs.

Cancer is the leading cause of disease burden to the health budget in Victoria and an average of 80 people are diagnosed every day – that’s about 30,000 a year. During the next ten years, Cancer diagnosis is expected to increase by more than 50 per cent.

I particularly acknowledge the people who contribute to the research, prevention, early detection, treatment and support of the many Victorians who are annually diagnosed with Cancer.

The Victorian Coalition Government has a proud record of investment in research and innovation in Victoria. Each year we provide $14.9 million to the Victorian Cancer Agency, a key funder of innovative translational cancer research activities across the state.

  • Last year the Victorian Coalition Government also contributed $1.7 million to support cancer research activities at the Cancer Council Victoria.
  • The Victorian Government is spending $1 billion on the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Parkville to build for the future and ensure we have modern, first-class facilities for cancer treatment and research.
  • And, Melbourne will host the 23rd World Cancer Congress in December. This is one of most important events in the scientific calendar, and the State of Victoria is pleased to be supporting this significant international meeting.
