Northern Bay Guarantee - helping single parents
Written on the 10 April 2015
Great to hear about Northern Futures, Northern Bay Guarantee and the commitment and support by Geelong business.
Northern Bay Guarantee is an exciting collaborative project that is helping young single parents living in Geelong's northern suburbs to overcome personal and financial hurdles to achieving a bright future.
The Northern Bay Guarantee is a two-year initiative that began in February 2014.
It is a collaboration between Northern Futures, Northern Bay College, The Gordon, Deakin University, the Federal Education Department (through Enterprise Geelong) and the Geelong Refinery.
It guarantees young parents aged between 15 and 25, a job or a fee-free higher education, including a university degree, if they successfully complete nationally-accredited training.
Participants receive a structured pathway of career and personal counselling, mentoring, training and direct links with employers.
Many of the young parents are drawn from Northern Bay College's Young Parents Access Program. An eligibility criteria applies.
Viva Energy Australia's two-year commitment to this exciting project helps provide a supportive environment for young parents as they develop the personal and technical skills they need to succeed - and this flows on to participants' children and the community.
