While the announcement by Premier Andrews to remove the Centre Road Bentleigh crossing is welcomed, it is a hollow promise until proper funding has been allocated.

While he may have promised to remove the Centre Road crossing, the $2.5 billion allocated to crossing removals does not exist, as it is dependent upon a port sale that has not occurred.

The public is still unaware of when construction on the crossing will begin; how long construction will take; and what impact the construction work will have.

Business success for traders on Centre Road is contingent on traffic flows and the availability of parking. Yet there have been no community forums to discuss these issues.

Daniel Andrews has not released a credible plan in dealing with minimising interruptions caused by the crossing removal.

Questions such as whether the carpark adjacent to the station will be closed during the construction phase need to be answered.

"If the Bentleigh station carpark is acquired, then what will happen to the Bentleigh Sunday Market?" Mr Robb said.

Additionally, the Andrews Government is yet to announce transport arrangements once the line is closed.

"Bentleigh residents want to know how they will get to work when their station is closed," Ms Crozier said.

"We still do not know how long the works will take, even though the Premier has been quoted saying that works will start in a few weeks."
