Small Business Day at Chelsea Village on Saturday, October 19 (27.09.2013)

Kingston Council and the Victorian Coalition Government are working together to support Small Business Day on Saturday 19 October with a free family event at the Chelsea Village Shopping Centre.

The special event will feature a guest appearance from Jewel Sparkle from the hit ABC show, Lalaloopsy, from 10.30am to 1pm at The Strand in the shopping centre.

The theme for the day is “shop big in small business.”

Member for Southern Metropolitan Region, Georgie Crozier said, it’s all about supporting Kingston’s local retailers.

"Our retailers play a large part in creating community across all our suburbs," she said.

Kingston Mayor Cr Ron Brownlees OAM said he was pleased to see the State Government get behind local retailers, as some have been struggling to stay competitive with large chains.

“There are number of shopping strips in Kingston that have been working hard to remain competitive in an increasingly difficult retail market. Support Small Business Day is about retailers, customers and local councils working together to attract customers back to our shops,” Cr Brownlees said.

“This is the first year of this program so Kingston is piloting the free family day. We hope to be able to extend this to different local shopping centres each year. All of Kingston’s shopping areas are unique in their own way and we are looking to celebrate that diversity in future years.”

Local retailers will be offering shoppers in-store offers as well as on-line deals on the Support Small Business website (
