Top ranked singles and doubles male and female badminton players thrilled the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on the final day of the 2012 Li-Ning Victorian Badminton International.

Representing Minister for Sport and Recreation, Hugh Delahunty, Member for Southern Metropolitan, Georgie Crozier was at the Centre to present trophies to finalists.

“The Victorian Government is proud to support tournaments like these as they provide emerging sports like badminton a chance to stage bigger and better events,” Ms Crozier said.

Ms Crozier said the Victorian Government has provided $10,000 funding for the event from the Victorian Government’s Significant Sporting Event Program.

“Major sporting events attract large numbers of visitors to our State, provide a stimulus for the economy and boost sports participation at a local level,” Ms Crozier said.

“Through initiatives like the Significant Sporting Events Program we can work together to develop and support a wide range of events like the Li-Ning Victorian Badminton International that help keep Victoria in the national and international spotlight,” she said.

Ms Crozier congratulated Badminton Australia and Badminton Victoria for their efforts in staging such a fantastic tournament.
