White Ribbon Day - to end violence against women

Educating the community and through media support is key to stopping violence against women and to changing attitudes and behaviours.

This year’s White Ribbon Day theme – Lifting the Embargo: Media and the prevention of violence against women – recognised the important educational role of media in preventing violence against women.

I joined my colleagues on the steps of Parliament House and we began our own ‘media event’ with a white ribbon on White Ribbon Day.

The White Ribbon Foundation plays an important educational role by challenging the cultural norms that inform the attitudes and behaviours that give license to some men to be violent towards women.
